Three types of asbestos analyses are provided through ETI:
- Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM), utilizing the dispersion staining technique for bulk samples.
- Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM), utilizing the NIOSH specified 7400 method for the analysis of airborne asbestos, and
- Transmission Electron Microcopy (TEM) analysis for asbestos confirmation in bulk samples and/or TEM AHERA air clearance samples (samples collected by ETI and analyzed on a subcontractual basis by an accredited TEM laboratory).
The ETI bulk asbestos laboratory is accredited to perform Bulk Asbestos Fiber Analysis (PLM) under the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). ETI has consistently participated on the NVLAP program since its institution on 1989.
The airborne asbestos laboratory is accredited by the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) as an Industrial Hygiene Laboratory. The laboratory has participated in the Proficiency Analytical Testing (PAT) program since 1985 and has maintained a consistent proficiency rating.
Since 1992, all ETI field and analytical personnel have participated in the AIHA Asbestos Analyst Testing (AAT) program and are listed with the AIHA Asbestos Analyst Registry (AAR).
